Visit Port Jefferson
Port Jefferson Village was home to America's earliest shipbuilders. This charming Village, nestled in a spectacular harbor setting, reveals fine old houses, beautiful gardens and, within a three block area, a selection of quality specialty shops.
The deep harbor has always been an asset in helping bring commerce to the area and even today, Port Jefferson serves as a gateway to Long Island, its quaint shops and restaurants catering to the thousands of travelers who come over from New England, using the Bridgeport Port Jefferson Ferry.
The downtown shorefront area features many quaint shops, boutiques, art galleries, antique stores and gift shops. The three walking tours available will give you a great sense of the history of the area as well as an introduction to the many shops and restaurants in the downtown area. The Historical Society of Greater Port Jefferson.
In December, Port Jefferson plays host to the annual Charles Dickens Festival. See townspeople don period attire and carriages ply the streets as the entire village transforms into a Victorian town. Come and enjoy the sights and sounds of old London. While at the Festival, be sure to see original shows, a Winter Ball, churches and other venues in the Village are filled with choirs, orchestras and other entertainment, House Tours and The Christmas Carol on Parade, where 20 foot puppets representing the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future march down Main Street.
From May to October, the H.M.S. Rose and other tall ships dock at Danfords Inn Marina in Port Jefferson and offer tours as well as daytime and sunset sails. You can even help hoist the sails! Also available during the warmer months is the Martha Washington, Port Jefferson's 85 foot Mississippi River Paddleboat offering daily cruises on the harbor as well as sunset dinner cruises and moonlight sails.Call (631) 331-3333 for reservations.
In June, Port Jefferson celebrates Patriot's Day. Celebrate our country’s history. People posing as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Ben Franklin, Martin Luther King, Jr. and others remind us of the importance of being an American Patriot. There are parades, and events throughout the town.
Every Wednesday night during June, July & August, experience MUSIC ON MAIN STREET, featuring jazz, classical,folk, bluegrass, rock and blues music
On summer Thursday nights, local galleries host a weekly Art Walk. Visitors can meet local artists while sipping wine and nibbling on cheese.
If fishing is your enjoyment, Port Jefferson is a fisherman's paradise. You can buy bait and rent dinghy's at Basil Caraftis & Sons. Want to catch larger fish? The Port Jefferson Ace and the Port Jefferson Prowler are party boats that leave the harbor a provide fishing in Long Island Sound.
In October, the The Greater Port Jefferson Northern Brookhaven Arts Council sponsors the Chalk Walk - A Street Painting Festival in which artists and non-artists alike chalk the streets. There is even free chalk while supplies last!
Also in October is the Annual Sidewalk Antique Sale when all the antique stores in Port Jefferson put on incredible sales.
All year long, you can enjoy our local theater - Theater Three, billed as " live theater at its best" with new performances through out the year.

In December, Port Jefferson turns into a Victorian Village, with street actors, re-enactments, plays, parades, choirs, dances, classes, tea parties, skating,parties, and special themed menus in local restaurants.
